Top 5 Quest Protein Bar Alternatives

By | April 16, 2016

In August 2015, Quest switched the fiber source for their protein bars from isomalto-oligosaccharides (plant-based fiber) to soluble corn fiber. The change of formulation has disappointed and upset many of its long time fans or loyal customers. Most of them found the newly formulated Quest protein bars unpalatable.

Here are some of the complaints about the reformulated Quest protein bars:

  • bad taste and texture (dry, chalky, crumbly, grainy, hard, stale).
  • strong, weird, bad and/or chemical after taste (probably due to increased use of the artificial sweetener, sucralose).
  • poorer nutritional quality, ie. reduced fiber and increased calories.
  • cause digestive issues such as gas, bloating and stomach pain.
  • no longer suitable for people with corn allergy or avoiding grains.
  • is soluble corn fiber made with GMO or non-GMO corn?
  • overly sweet.

Quest bars were one of the best protein bars (low in carbs and sugar, high in fiber and protein). Unfortunately, the formula change has ruined a once great product.

If you are a former Quest bar fan who are looking for alternatives,, check out the following protein bars which have similar macro profile to  Quest bars…
